    PPIE

Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) means the active participation of people with lived experience in the research process.

    Why PPIE is crucial

PPIE plays a vital role in ensuring research reflects the priorities, experiences, and needs of people with lived experience. By involving those directly affected by research, studies become more meaningful, transparent, and accountable.

Bringing together a range of perspectives strengthens the research process, leading to more robust and relevant findings. This collaborative approach also increases the likelihood that research outcomes will be translated into practice, helping to improve healthcare, inform policy, and create lasting change.

McPin is a mental health research charity that facilitates the PPIE for this study through a Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP). The panel brings together people with lived experience of Severe Mental Illness (SMI) and informal carers.

We work closely with our LEAP at every stage of the research process, ensuring that the voices and experiences of people with lived experience help shape the direction of our project.
